... And the World Keeps Spinnin'

Rosana Sancin is an artist, curator, researcher, and writer living and working across the globe. She is interested in Pan-Africanist legacies, marronage, liberation and healing practices. Recent projects include platform ''Border Dwellers'' and shape shifting project ''#givemethepowers'', both triggered by Haitian revolution and the 'Scramble for Africa'. She participated in residencies, collabs, performances, curated events, conferences, lectures, theory making etc. in Europe, US, Caribbean, Latin America and Africa. Upcoming publication includes THIRD TEXT AFRICA's issue on ''Collectivities''.

Summary

''I'd like to go on a journey across different time zones. A Pan-African journey with focus on Africa and Diaspora. I have interest in non-Western knowledge systems, liberation and healing practices (in relation to art). Research trips include Dakar, Accra, Capetown, Maputo, Praia, and more... '' said Rosana Sancin in a conversation with me in Berlin recently.

Description

''During the trips I will connect with artists, curators, healers, spiritual practitioners, musicians, philosophers, etc., engage in long-lasting conversations and imagine future projects.

Institutions to visit include RAW Material Company (Centre for Art, Knowledge and Society) and Kehinde Wiley's Black Rock (both in Dakar), ANO (a non-profit artist-run space in Accra) and recently opened Zeitz Museum in Capetown. However, I plan to spend most of the time outside of 'art plantations'.

I have special interest in concepts such as radical sharing, postcolony, and creolity amongst others'' she added. And the conversation could go on and on.

Organizers/curators: Koyo Kouoh, Marie Helene Pereira, Nana Offoriatta-Ayim amongst others

Proposal for Ghetto Byenal

6th Ghetto Biennale: Haitian Revolution and Beyond

Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

Project proposal:

In recent years I've been doing some research and practice about Haitian revolution and how
could we reenact it in the present (in art context and beyond).

I'd like to spin ideas with artists who are also Vodun practitioners. They could make
propositions for the future (and present) based on marronage, liberation and healing practices,
ways of living together, and conceptions of art that go beyond western logic.

We will also discuss forms of political, economic and social organizing based on indigenous
knowledges and practiced for centuries in response to colonialism/coloniality.

Together with Vodun priest, and in collab with local artists, I'd like to create a performance/ritual that deals with Haitian revolution, current struggles, decolonial love, non-binary ways of perceiving the world, etc.
